International Conference on Structural Adhesive Bonding 2011

    Dear colleagues,

I would like to inform you about the International Conference on Structural Adhesive Bonding 2011 which will take place in Porto, Portugal, 7-8 July 2011 (http://www.fe.up.pt/adhesivebonding2011). The conference venue is the campus of Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), which offers excellent facilities for high quality scientific interactions. FEUP is located in the town of Porto in the Northern region of Portugal. Porto is a beautiful and lively city, steeped in history and rich in great experiences. With its magnificent location by the Atlantic coast, Porto is the city of the world famous Port Wine and the River Douro.

This conference is the continuation of a special session on adhesive bonding that took place over the last three years within the international conference on advanced computational engineering and experimenting (ACE-X). The adhesive bonding session has been growing over the last three years within the ACE-X conference and we feel that it now deserves a conference of its own, which will start from 2011. The conference is chaired by me and co-chaired by Andreas Öchsner (Technical University of Malaysia) and R. D. Adams (University of Bristol, UK).

The focus will be on structural bonding but all relevant areas of bonding are welcome: Fundamental aspects of adhesion; the science and technology of surfaces; advances in adhesive materials; mechanical properties of bonded joints; innovative designs and applications; testing and standardization; industrial aspects; quality procedures; environmental and ecological aspects.

The scientific committee includes Alessandro Pirondi (Università degli Studi di Parma, Italy), Bamber Blackman (Imperial College, UK), Chiaki Sato (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan), Erol Sancaktar (The University of Akron, USA), Eugenio Dragoni (Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Italy), Gary Critchlow (Loughborough University, UK), Hans Poulis (TU Delft, Netherlands), Hyun-Joong Kim (Seoul National University, S Korea), Hak-Joo Lee (Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials, S Korea), Ian Ashcroft (Loughborough University, UK), Jean-Yves Cognard (ENSIETA, France), Jose Miguel Martin Martinez (University of Alicante, Spain), Juan Carlos Del Real (Universidad Pontificia Comillas Madrid, Spain), Juan Carlos Suarez (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain), Liyong Tong (The University of Sydney, Australia), Luca Goglio (Politecnico di Torino, Italy), Marcelo de Moura (University of Porto, Portugal), Peter Davies (IFREMER, France), Raul Campilho (Universidade Lusófona do Porto, Portugal), S. Mohammad Reza Khalili (K.N. Toosi University of Technology, Iran) and Toshiyuki Sawa (University of Hiroshima, Japan).

Authors who wish to make a presentation (oral or poster) are requested to submit a short abstract (one single A4 page possibly with a diagram and references) in English, by 15 March 2011. The abstracts should be sent electronically to lucas@fe.up.pt. The abstract template can be downloaded from the conference web site (http://www.fe.up.pt/adhesivebonding2011)

Conference proceedings (cd-rom) with the accepted abstracts will be available at the registration. The cd-rom will be published by FEUP edições and will have an ISBN number.
Full papers will be published in special issues of the Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, The Journal of Adhesion and International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives (provided they meet the journals standard), or in a book from the Advanced Structured Materials series by Springer. The full papers (not compulsory) should be sent to the e-mail lucas@fe.up.pt before the 7th of July 2011. The text should be in single column format and double line spacing.

    Important dates
15 March 2011 Abstract submission deadline
01 April 2011 Notification of acceptance to authors
15 April 2011 Early bird registration (registration form available in the conference web site)

    Yours sincerely,
